A short story
I was three. My mom left me on a rooftop in Las Vegas. The security guard found me when he thought he heard screaming from the rooftop. He came up and took me down stairs and called the Child Protection Services. They found me a foster home and I've been in 24 different foster homes over the past 8 years. None of them liked me much, they said I was to quiet and that they got scared when they couldn't find me but I was under my bed reading the whole time. Then, one day, that all changed. When I got moved to my 24th foster home I was 11 and had broken my personal record and had read 101 books over the past year. My foster parents did the same thing all the other ones did, they said hi and hugged me, introduced me to all the other kids and took me to my room and again I said thank you and started reading. But these foster parents didn't allow me to read all day, they made me play with the other kids and if I read, I had to read in the sun room were they could see me. I didn't like it one little bit. But I have to admit, I actually made some friends. I stayed at that foster home longer than I ever had. The longest I ever stayed at another foster home was 6 months. I've been here for at least a year and a half. I had so much fun there. Then one day I was about to go to bed and was the only one waiting outside the bathroom so I could brush my teeth and my foster parents came up to me and said, " Daniel, how would you like it if you joined the MacIntosh family?" Let's just say, I went berserk. I was jumping and laughing and yelling " YES! YES! YES!" And the whole time my new parents (Mom and Dad) were beaming from ear to ear. And finally, when I got so tiered and out of breath I had to lie down, I went to bed in such a good mood I was smiling when I went to sleep. That year I didn't read much, only 56 books, but I had the best time of my foster-kid life those couple years, and I have a great life ahead of me.
